Berry: Which is more.

David Lawrence: That*s right, exactly I do. I wish sometimes I had a dog. The dog won*t go and say dad can I get those cake and the lobster. So but the settings on iDVD, have you messed with those at all, the actual output settings.

Berrry: The techs walk me through that and there is only one choice to see the quality, high quality or a fast work rate which would comprise the quality. So we have set that as the highest standard, the only option is the high quality when I got it set at that.

David Lawrence: When you got it set at that, okay. Well and I haven*t put the two side by side to see what the difference is. It maybe that you need a tool other than iDVD, which you know on the Windows side you have to pay extra for that Pinnacle tool, on the Mac side iDVD is free. So you know that*s something to be considered, you are getting what to pay for. And for most people that quality is okay like a similar situation is in iTunes. In iTunes they give you three pre sets. They give you 128 Joint Stereo 160 Joint Stereo and 192 Joint Stereo and they call it things that I don*t consider to be accurate, not the least of which is high quality of 192. All the stuff that you are hearing here on the show that we do in mp3 format is 256 True Stereo which is really high quality that*s broadcast quality and not near the quality to train you on a good system of the original wave or aiff files. So these phrases high quality, you know faster, better, cheaper you know these are all relative to the mass that uses the software and it probably is the case that the bit-depth and the color palate that*s used by Pinnacle for their high quality settings is higher than the set high quality settings in iDVD. The proof is on the putting, you are getting stuff that isn*t as good as you used to get. So what I would look to is other pieces of software, none of which I know of the top of my head but I will be happy to look during the break for doing that sort of thing, for doing a DVD burning and doing things at a higher quality. The place that I would send you to is the review side for CNET reviews.cnet.com and I would put in as my search phrase DVD slide show Macintosh or DVD slide show Mac OS X. And see if it comes up with any software and the software reviews and if so you will find very quickly what other people are saying about the software and how it works and how well the images look once they are burnt. The other thing that I wanted to mention to you is that the format of the DVD that is coming out of an Apple machine versus most of the other Windows machines out there is going to be different. Apple uses a different format and your DVD player should play both formats equally well. The images should have similar quality given the same settings but there maybe an issue as well in the DVD player that when it*s decoding one versus another that it*s not coming out very well but I have a feeling it*s just those presets in iDVD. Does that make sense?

Berry: Sure does and I did see a copy of Pinnacle in the Apple store I thought that was pretty peculiar but I know there is probably lot of Pro Mac guys being in their head will go on, no, no use Final Cut. Well I have got that on their too.

David Lawrence: Yeah well I would absolutely do that especially if you are looking to get the best quality possible that is a Prosumer, unless you get Final Cut HD that is a Prosumer piece of gear and is worth looking into and doing it work that way and I would be thrilled if you call me back and let me know.
