At Worst...The Best of Boy George and Culture Club
By:
List Price: $11.98
Amazon Price: $3.50

At best, Boy George and his band Culture Club were a dizzy mix of camp, drag, dub, disco, reggae, and new wave. The androgynous George rhumba-ed his way through hits like "I'll Tumble 4 Ya" and crooned with white boy soul through their reggae classic "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" as well as the Delta-inspired "Karma Chameleon." At worst, the band had trouble finding direction and the proper vehicles for his smooth voice, producing clunkers like "Church of the Poison Mind." "Move Away" and "Miss Me Blind"--which actually took its chorus from a Japanese whiskey commercial--were Culture Club at their most brilliant. The band knew it wasn't making fine art and rose to the task of crafting flawless pop gems. George's later work didn't have the sense of fun and abandon as his stint with Culture Club, but his remake of "The Crying Game" again demonstrated those soulful pipes. Also worthy of note from his later career is the Krishna-inspired club hit "Bow Dow Mister." --Steve Gdula

A Night Out With Boy George

Lesser Known Facts
A terrific mix by one of the most independant thinking DJs out there. Boy George packs this cd with rare mixes ( his own ballad "Julian", remixed here into a great house track ) and songs that you just don't hear down at your local disco ( the fabulous "the Dealer"). This is not your everyday DJ mix. And George freely admits that in the liner notes, which to some could be seen as a kind of musical snobery, but in this case he is justifiably proud of this mix.

Cheapness & Beauty

A lively disc that begins with a series of tempestuous guitar-based rockers including a choice cover of Iggy Pop's "Funtime." His voice remains a cracked shadow of its '80s self, but that only adds to the appeal of the title track, "Same Thing in Reverse," and "I'll Adore." --Jeff Bateman

Classic tracks from Boy George
i was so glad to get a hold of this compilation of one of the most underrated song writers of the 20th century. This mix of Boy George solo hits remastered is a great addition to my collection of Boy George and Culture Club cd's that can't be found on other cd's. "Life my life" is remixed ok...but the haunting song "if i could fly" and the great soulful remake of "what becomes of a broken hearted" are Boy George's voice at perfection. Perfect mix for any Boy George fan or for anyone you think might love this cd!

One of his best!
This is by far my favourite of George's solo albums (not including DJ mixes, etc...). There is such an aura around it that is fantastic. "Generations of Love" is one of the best songs Boy has ever done, IMHO. GREAT!

High Hat

CUSTOMER REVIEW:
High Hat!
One of Boy George's most interesting solo records to date. I first came across this cd at a second hand shop. And wasn't aware that George had made a solo record. I must admit that there are several songs on this record that are "SHOCKING".

Anyway being a huge fan of Culture and George. I brought this record and only liked 3 songs, which are; Kipsy, Girl with combination skin, and my favourite on the record; Something strange called love.

For those die hard George fans, this could be a goer but I recommend Sold as this had much more commerical appeal. However that shouldn't put any fan off from buying this record.
