David Lawrence: Okay great that*s fine. In this case he is absolutely correct. And here*s the deal. This is why I tell people to never ever, ever, ever respond to a piece of spam that has an unsubscribed link to it. Never to use the E-mail to unsubscribe from anything unless you are absolutely sure that the organization and individual that sent that piece of E-mail to you is exactly the organization that you think it is. In other words if you have been subscribed for a long time to a mailing list about bicycling right or surfing or whatever and you know full well. You are getting E-mails all the time. There is conversations going back and forth and at the bottom of one of these E-mails is the unsubscribed link. That*s safe to do. But when you get a piece of E-mail that says you know Chehalis on sale, or cable descrambler*s cheap or you know you have won the Nigerian spammers or the Nigerian lottery and anyone of those having an unsubscribe link at the bottom of them, right. All that does is exactly what your IT guys said it does. If you reply back to that they don*t remove you from the list.

Kevin: Right. I have never done that. I just*

David Lawrence: But wait here is the important part. They say oh E-mail from Kevin. He is a live address. You know what I am going to do with his E-mail address? I am going to put his E-mail address on our more spam to Kevin list because it*s a live address. They are not wasting their time. They know that you are a live address. If they get any response back from you and you know whether it*s an automated response or not doesn*t matter. And the vacation message or the out of office attendant as Outlook describes it is just that. It*s a piece of E-mail. It may not have been sent overtly by you, it*s sent automatically by the system. But what it tells the spammer is hey they got the E-mail and they responded to it. They must be a live account and that*s like gold to them. They are going to send you more spam and they are going to sell your E-mail address to other spammers as a currently live E-mail address.

Kevin: Great.

David Lawrence: So the best thing to do is to put the out of office message on your voicemail and not do any sort of response to people saying my E-mail I won*t be responding. Have somebody get your office E-mail for you while you are on vacation or have you know but don*t, vacation messages for business people in particular are spam magnets. Absolutely he was absolutely right now. I don*t know what else he*s told you to do but I think in this case its been really, its really good advice.

Kevin: I appreciate that very much.

David Lawrence: Alright.

Kevin: One other question it's regarding your Geek Speak earlier. I think it was called greylist or something.

David Lawrence: Greylisting.

Kevin: Greylisting.

David Lawrence: If my ISP was Greylisted would the same apply---?

Kevin: ISPs aren*t Greylisted. The Greylisting is something that you install on your mail server that applies to all inbound E-mail. And if you went back to your IT guy and say hey have you heard about Greylisting, you might want to implement that. And if he doesn*t know what Greylisting is send him over to the link that I mentioned and have him drop me a piece of E-mail. I will be happy to share it with him. Greylisting can make all the difference in the world and maybe we can help heal this relationship between you and your IT guy. Alright?

Kevin: Thanks I appreciate it very much.
