I'm not into alternative, even though this CD is done in an alternative style I still loved it. Every song on the CD is different than Queens but they still sound great. It was tons o fun trying to guess what would come next. had to take 1 star off - bicycle race was too much too take. Over all a must have for queen fans and alternative fans.

The strategy sessions over how to present Blake Lewis's post-American Idol debut must have been excruciating, as label-types scratched their heads, wondering: Is it possible to market a disc full of beat-boxing? If not, would the world warm to Blake Lewis, pop charmer? Or Blake Lewis, balladeer? The safest bet seems to have been to build a better post-prime time set by way of experimentation. Audio Day Dream unfolds much the way late-season American Idol shows do: It sets Lewis on a lot of platforms and lets him play up his charm, if not always his straight-outta-the-'80s musical predilections. Partially the brainchild of producer Ryan Tedder (One Republic), "Break Anotha" is pure beat-box Blake and, as such, it's demonically catchy. The same can be said for hip-hop and electro-tinged numbers such as "She's Makin' Me Lose It" and "Gots to Get To Her." Stabs at sentimentality surface, and they're not bad: "I Got U" may very well get you, if you like soft pop stylized with a nod in Adam Levine's direction. Overall, ADD demonstrates why Lewis blazed his way into AI's final round: He's out there, sure, but he's willing to reel it in enough to keep it real for the masses. -Tammy La Gorce

As Randy, Paula, and Simon might put it, it's a little pitchy in places, but not bad overall. On Pray for the Soul of Betty, the debut disc from the New York-based band fronted by American Idol reject Constantine Maroulis, we get a taste of the kind of music the vainglorious but inarguably good-looking singer cooked up prior to his primetime TV turn. As it happens, the company Constantine kept (and still keeps--we can expect to hear more from Pray for the Soul of Betty) is a whole lot less friendly than the bright-smiled, starry-eyed cast of characters he shared a stage with in the spring of 2005. Essentially, Pray for the Soul of Betty is hardcore rock 101: It's loud, angry, and delivered with a snarl, not to mention a few choice curse words (check "Rich ****"). The bass thunders ominously, the drums explode, and the singer--our star--tramps insouciantly across it all, coming off as more of a theatrical presence than an interpreter of anything meaningful. Which is not to say the disc doesn't have its moments; a couple of well timed vocal turns on "SomeofMy*****UpWorld" reinforce why Constantine had a run at the Idol title, and "Truck Stop Sally" tells a compelling if vapid story. Best reason to buy it: The easy-on-the-eyes cover art. -Tammy La Gorce
