• American Scientists Fear Losing Edge in Physics
21 May 2012 at 5:44pm
With budgetary constraints delaying or canceling space missions, American physicists are taking the back seat in areas like dark energy in which they have been pioneers.
• Dark Matter Makes a Comeback
21 May 2012 at 1:51pm
Recent reports of dark matter?s demise may be greatly exaggerated, according to a new paper from researchers at the Institute for Advanced Study. • Dark Matter vs. Modified Gravity: A Trialogue | Cosmic Variance
9 May 2012 at 12:32pm
It?s well known that all of our evidence for dark matter (and dark energy too, but that?s not the subject here) at the present time is indirect: it comes from observing the gravitational influence of the hypothetical stuff, not from detecting it ?directly? (i.e., using some interaction other than gravitational). So it?s natural to ask [...]
• New trading methods designed to keep investors in the dark
24 Apr 2012 at 12:33am
Beware the dark markets. Just like physicists at a loss about how dark energy and matter warp the known universe, individual investors and even supposedly sophisticated traders should be worrying about so-called dark markets, where stocks can be bought and sold out of public view.
• New Universe in a Black Hole
17 May 2012 at 1:09pm
Our universe may exist inside a black hole. This may sound strange, but it could actually be the best explanation of how the universe began, and what we observe today. It's a theory that has been explored over the past few decades by a small group of physicists including myself.
• 1 supernova type, 2 different sources
7 May 2012 at 10:32am
( Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics ) The exploding stars known as Type Ia supernovae serve an important role in measuring the universe, and were used to discover the existence of dark energy. They're bright enough to see across large distances, and similar enough to act as a "standard candle" - an object of known luminosity. However, an embarrassing fact is that astronomers still don ...
• The dark matter pelting your body right now: A guide
3 May 2012 at 2:38am
Groundbreaking new research suggests that the universe's most mysterious substance is hitting the human body at a much higher rate than previously thought
• Milky Way's Gamma-ray Bubbles Shaped by Dark Matter?
8 May 2012 at 1:39pm
New research points to a dark matter signature in the sky, but it might be an effect of the mysterious gamma ray lobes that stick out of the black hole in the center of our galaxy.
• The tiny universe on the surface of Alaska glaciers
20 May 2012 at 1:42am
A scientist wearing plastic boots and crampons knelt on Gulkana Glacier and pointed at the king of beasts, a snow flea. "He is the top of the food chain on this glacier," said biologist Nozomu Takeuchi.
• Supernovae can be casual sippers or violent rippers
9 May 2012 at 8:45am
Two rival theories for how supernovae form are both right ? a finding that will boost the search for mysterious dark energy

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
