DARPA Grand Challenge

I used to work for ARPA (when it was called ARPA - they keep going back and forth between ARPA and DARPA), the government defense agency that is charged with eploring technology as a means to national defense. They developed the Internet along with participating universities back in the late 60's. For the past several years, they've been sponsoring a contest to see if it's possible to drive full size vehicles across a sizeable distance of the rough terrain of the Mojave Desert. In 2004, no vehicles made it. In 2005, 4 did. Could we someday fight wars without human soldiers? Read on to find out the latest.
