Eliot Spitzer, former Attorney General of New York State, and now their Governor, made a name for himself in the dot-com world, taking every company whose approach to business he disagreed with, whether they actually broke the law in New York State or not, to court.
More often than not, the protracted legal obligations of fighting this relentless profitarian led companies to settle out of court. Unfortunately, most of the booty that changed hands never found its way to the actual victims: over 100 million dollars in fines for Merrill Lynch, and all of it went into the New York State treasury.
As Governor, Spitzer vowed to make ethics his number one priority. Let's hope that extends to his office as well.

Product Description
The rise to power of Eliot Spitzer, the scourge of Wall Street and one of America?s most controversial politicians, by the reporter who knows his crusade best
Few politicians have burst onto the American scene with as much impact as Eliot Spitzer. He has exposed wrongdoing by stock analysts, mutual fund managers, and insurance brokers, and he has investigated corporations that have misled or defrauded investors and consumers. When federal regulators have fallen down on their responsibilities, Spitzer has stepped in to protect ordinary, middle-class Americans. His actions as the New York State attorney general have made companies change the way they do business, which in turn affects every American with a retirement plan, an insurance policy, or a prescription to fill.
No reporter has had better or more complete behind-the-scenes access to Spitzer?s operation?and to the strategies that have underpinned his crusade against these powerful forces in the American economy?than Brooke A. Masters of The Washington Post. In Spoiling for a Fight, she presents a portrait that is at once dramatic and revealing, raising the question of whether Spitzer?s way of conducting government business is good or bad for America.
Combining passion and zeal with a savvy understanding of the press, Spitzer has brought down some of the biggest names in American finance and now has his sights set on higher office. This revelatory book shows Americans how Spitzer has transformed their lives and what his crusade could mean for the future.

• Politicians Putting Penises where Penises Shouldn?t Go
by Chardon Moore This is certainly a topic I enjoy writing about. I first wrote about this type of thing when I was 16 years old back in 1998?of course, back then, it was wild Bill (oh, how I miss that man!). I?ve commented on a lot of Politicians who can?t seem to keep it in their pants, but Gov. Mark Sanford?s recent indiscretion made me re-evaluate myself. You see, I?ve been a bit hard on the conservatives lately. That was perfectly fine when they were running my country into the fli
• Crazy like on Fox
It?s time to face the awful truth: the right-wing blogosphere?s reaction to Sarah Palin?s resignation has been disappointingly sane . There are two notable exceptions, however. First, we have Atlas Shrugs : 6:40 pm: The diseased and utterly morally left at work again (I talked of this very evil here, earlier this week) ? photoshopping Palin family pictures here. Do you believe this represents America? (hat tip Dave) Bear in mind, this is not the first time they have made fun of and

I?ve tried to grab a single subject and explore it, but to no avail ? rounding up the news is like this Toles ?toon [a comment on Franken's win after EIGHT LONG MONTHS.] We?re in flux, moving forward, backward and sideways, all at once and at light speed, so here are some of the disjointed bits that make up the fabric of the

Sanford case shines a spotlight on the central paradox of marriage.South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford not only played fast and loose with the institution of marriage, but with email. • ?On giving Goldman a chance? (Matt Taibbi)
On giving Goldman a chance Matt Taibbi After my Rolling Stone piece about Goldman, Sachs hit the newsstands last week (unfortunately the piece is not yet up on the magazine?s web site, so I can?t link to it yet ? but it is out in print), I started to get a lot of mail. Most of it was thoughtful and respectful criticism, although there was an amusingly large number of people writing in impassioned defense of their right, under our American system, to be ripped off by large impersonal financia

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets.
