David Lawrence: Alright Java, Java Programming Language. Now this is a language like other languages that are used to create programs. In this case they are keyed around websites and in the beginning it was intended to be a replacement actually. Sun Microsystems created this. It was intended to be a replacement for the most popular programming language of the day which was C++ but it never quite got there. People are still programming in C++ but it did find a great home on the web. So much about Java was built around how to make websites more interactive, more versatile to execute things while websites were opened rather than just sitting there and showing you images and text. And to do this they created a series of pieces that were installed right on your computer called the Java Virtual Machine. And those differ whether you have a Mac or Windows machine or a UNIX machine but how you program in Java doesn't change at all. So once you program in Java it will work on all of those platforms because of the Java Virtual Machine or the JVM that you usually already have installed on those machines once you buy them from the store. Now sometimes you know Microsoft noses its way into things and in the case of the development of Java they did just that. They began to expand on Java. Sun didn't like that, took them to court. For a while there Windows did not have a Java Virtual Machine now they do, now everything is back to hunky-dory. If you find you are having issues when you go to sites that have games associated with them like Pogo or the Yahoo gaming site or they kind of switching over to Flash over there or financial sites that maybe show you real time stock prices and so on. You might want to update your Java Virtual Machine and you can go to www.microsoft.com and check that out. www.apple.com the new Apple operating system Mac OS X has a great Java Virtual Machine built into it and it*s all native too which is kind of cool. But that's Java. Now don't confuse Java with JavaScript two different things. They share the same wording at the beginning but very different things, very, very different things. We might talk about JavaScript at some point in the future but that's it. That is this hour*s Geek Speak Java right here on Online Tonight.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
