David Lawrence: Well good see and that*s all it is. You know I have people call me all the time and I actually had a woman write me about just thinking that I was being arrogant about this. Somebody called me up and they do this often. They will say oh I will tell you something David I am just computer illiterate. And that really bothers me, it really bothers me. Because it*s almost a badge of honor like ah I don*t know anything about these machines. I am computer illiterate but I am calling you anyway. The problem here is that*s just like saying in today*s society that*s like saying I am illiterate or I am bad part of town illiterate. Because you can be you can have your identity stolen, you can have your passwords stolen, you can be sucked into a spam scam, you can lose money out of a bank account just by being computer illiterate. So my mission on the show is to stop people from saying that. And I told the caller please don*t say that. I am you know I don*t want to hear people say that and I don*t want to even getting in the habit of saying oh I am computer illiterate. I want you to be empowered because today*s society is so based on and circulated around the technology that we use everyday to think that older Americans are targeted specifically for their social security numbers so that people can steal their direct deposit funds. I mean that is so aberrant to me and so horrible that our society has the ability to do that and there are people who are willing to do that. I am here. I am the guy to say don*t be ignorant. Don*t be illiterate. Learn as much as you can about what our lives are circulating around these days, what they revolve around technology wise and protect yourself protect you and your family. What about your kids? Don*t you want to know what they are doing in chat rooms? Don*t you want to know what they are doing via Instant Messaging and via messaging on the phones? That*s what predators pray for is that you don*t get what your kids are doing. So don*t call me up and say I am computer illiterate and expect me to go ha-ha-ha yeah I understand how can I help? I don*t want that to be the case. Just a little bit of education goes so far and you can prevent yourself for been taken advantage of if you are curious about why PayPal is sending you E-mail? Why is my bank sending me E-mail saying I need to update my password? Could that possibly no that*s what the spammers want you to think. They want you to go and give them your user ID and password. So they can take your money. You know what I mean? You know what I am talking about.

Mary: Yes.

David Lawrence: I just I don*t want people to think I am being arrogant about this or I am being I just don*t want you to be in ditch. I don*t want you to be in a situation where you could be harmed. So it*s a mission.

Mary: Okay yeah well thank you very much for your advice. I really appreciate it.

David Lawrence: I appreciate it. I am sorry for going on and on about that but I just you know especially people who are new to technology. That*s what these jerks just lay in wait for. They lay in wait for people who don*t understand the technology, who look at a piece of E-mail and say well that looks legitimate to me. And then they go about clicking on a link that takes them to a page that looks just like their banks page, just like it. And they enter their information and instead of getting their bank they send their information off to someone who can then use it to steal from them. It*s just insane. I see we can squeeze in one more call here at 180039 online. And I welcome, I welcome phone calls from people like you who may look at that and go I don*t understand how to avoid that. I get them all the time. I don*t know what*s real, what's not real. I can help you. Call me. 180039 online Gordon you are Online Tonight with David Lawrence hello sir.

Gordon: Hello at the beginning of your program you mentioned three Anti Spyware program.

David Lawrence: Yes I did.

Gordon: Audible and you also said that you should only run one Antivirus program.

David Lawrence: That*s correct.

Gordon: I just ordered a DSL high speed modem here and I installed it last week according to that CD instructions. And it mentioned in the user manual that it has a built-in, in their basic setup it has a WAN Firewall that should always be left on.

David Lawrence: Right that*s a hardware Firewall.
