Jeremy: Well I hope I have an easy question for you.

David Lawrence: Alright.

Jeremy: I have an IBM ThinkPad that*s running a Pentium 3 Chip. The problem that I have come into is I inadvertently let the battery run all the way dead. Yeah of course it went into hibernate. The next day I plugged everything in, it booted up lasted for about 10 to 30 minutes and then just went completely black, everything died. I attempted to restarted it, power button acted like it wasn*t even there pressing it. So I closed it up. The next day I tried, it came back up 10-30 minutes went black again. Took it into a national chain for their center, guy said they thought it was the Motherboard.

David Lawrence: Okay.

Jeremy: So I don*t know.

David Lawrence: And I say because it*s not the Motherboard.

Jeremy: That was quite dismissive.

David Lawrence: Yeah it was very dismissive. I dismissed that out of hand. I say foosah to that.

Jeremy: Okay.

David Lawrence: Okay. I think you have either a bad battery or you, now I am pretty sure it*s just simply, have you tried replacing the battery just to see if that matters?

Jeremy: I have not.

David Lawrence: Okay that*s the first thing I would do. Usually when a battery has sort of this memory effect, you will be able to run it down to certain point but if you keep charging it and you don*t let it run down all the time you know to get it reconditioned, it will eventually not hold very much of a charge at all. Now it could be your power supply as well. It could be that the, how old is the Laptop?

Jeremy: It*s I would say 4, 5 years old.

David Lawrence: Well it could be the actual Lithium battery or that backups the battery that*s in there. That may be down as well. But I would also look at the power supply. Here*s what I would do. Don*t go to where you went before where they said it was the Motherboard. If it was the Motherboard you would never get past the boot section. You would never get past what's called the POST which is the Power On Self Test. You would never get that far. If there was a problem with the Motherboard it would happen right away. Now there maybe a heat related issue because its happening at the same time when you do it but I bet you dollar it's going out because it*s a power issue either with the battery or the power supply. So take it in and have somebody else look at it, alright.

Jeremy: Thank you very much.

David Lawrence: I appreciate it. Brian*s going to be on with the Podcast. So go sign up for that, back in the moment.
