Martin: Community college class.

David Lawrence: Absolutely, absolutely I think that*s brilliant. I appreciate the call. Hey Keith you are Online Tonight with David Lawrence hello.

Keith: Hey how are you? Thanks for taking my call.

David Lawrence: I am doing okay I appreciate it, thank you very much.

Keith: I am calling with a picture resizing question. The situation is this I have got a PDA phone and on my screen I have just put up my own custom screen design and there is website that I can do this there but it requires that the picture whatever image I want to put down is exactly by 160x160 pixels.

David Lawrence: Right.

Keith: So if I want to pull something of the web or even one of my own photograph from my kid or whatever, it*s often much larger than that or let*s say even if it*s only 200x200. How can I either crop that or resize it to so that it has to be exactly 160x160?

David Lawrence: Sure, it depends on what software you are using. But usually there is a resize function to do exactly what you want. Now if the picture isn't even if it isn't like you know 2400 if you are taking a big picture out of the digital camera. Often those sizes are like 2400 byte you know 3400 depends on what kind of what kind of camera you have and what the aspect ratio is. So you either crop it or you resize it if it*s the same size you know the same aspect ratio up and across same number. Then you can resize it if it*s exactly what you want. Now if you want to crop it there is a short cut that works with every piece of software, if you want to actually get a square.

Keith: Yeah.

David Lawrence: And that is to hold the Shift key down while you select what you want to crop. It will allow you to make a square you can pull like from the upper left hand corner and lower right hand corner with the Shift key down and even if you stray from the 45 degree angle to pull that square down. It will still only make a square however large you want it. Now there are options to go from the center out or from a corner down. And if you hold the Shift key down that that will make sure it*s even on all side you crop it and then you use the resize function to resize it to 160*160.
