David Lawrence: You said you double click on some application that says connect to the Internet.
Joe: That*s correct.
David Lawrence: Usually with broadband as I said before the break you don*t have to do that. There is no active thing that you need to do other than turn your machine on and have a boot into Windows. But you have to double click on something else.
Joe: Well just the icon.
David Lawrence: Okay. I am saying hear me carefully. Most people who are on broadband cable or DSL they don*t have to do anything to be on the Internet other than actually turn their machine on. There is no icon for them to double click on, there is nothing for them to launch. The moment that they boot their machine up they are on the net. If they open a browser they can go to any website. If they go to their E-mail client they can immediately look for E-mail without having to log on or double click somewhere to get on to the Internet. That extra step is in some ways adequate but what you are saying is it isn*t working.
Joe: That*s correct.
David Lawrence: So this is a thing you need to deal with bandwidth and do you know what version of the operating system your Mac is on?
Joe: 9.02 or something.
David Lawrence: Okay. So both of those things lead me to believe that you have been left behind by your ISP. Your ISP is now saying only ME and above on Windows and only OS X or 9.3 and above or Macintosh. So this is an issue that you need to call up your ISP with. Who is your ISP?
Joe: Comcast.
David Lawrence: Yeah so I would absolutely bet dollars to do-nuts that Comcast has changed their software and has left you behind. So you need to call them up and see if there is anything you can do. You may end up having to go to OS X on your Mac and to leave behind the dual boot situation on your PC. I know it*s more comfortable for you to be on a 98 SE but getting used to XP is a good idea at this point. It*s been around for a couple of years and you should move to it.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
