Up until about 4 days ago and we will get to the calls in a just a moment I just want to talk about this. Up until about 4 days ago if you had sent me a piece of E-mail you would have gotten back a challenge from Mail Blocks a challenge that says hi you just sent David Lawrence some E-mail, just want to make sure you are alive human being so you know do me a favor and click on this link and go fill out this puzzle over at mailblocks.com. And you would be presented with one of those little, those little CAPTCHA that*s what they are called CAPTCHA. And what those are little puzzles they have numbers that are on graphic background and they kind of skewed so that they can*t be read manually or it can*t be read automatically they can only be read by humans. And you type in those numbers and you are automatically white listed to send me mail.
Well some things have happened in the last month or so that have changed how I feel about Mail Blocks in particular. I still think challenge response systems have a position for those people that just simply have no other recourse to protect themselves from Spam the opinion of others is not withstanding. But Mail Blocks in particular I am no longer going to be using and I am no longer going to be suggesting that others use as well and here*s why. Last summer American Online purchased Mail Blocks and that seemed to be a good thing all around. As you know one of the advantages of using Mail Blocks is not only the challenge response system but also the fact that you could get your POP E-mail that*s E-mail on your own server with yourdomain.com you could get your Hotmail mail you could get Yahoo mail you could get Bigfoot mail you could get any other free E-mail service and American Online*s mail. So for me it was great because all of those fed into one user account. Mail Blocks would go out and get E-mail from my POP Server, they would go out and get E-mail from my AOL server and if I had any other site E-mail addresses I could add those as well it was very, very convenient. Right after AOL purchased Mail Blocks something happened that had happened before but had always been fixed and that was that AOL changed their Gateway to the point where Mail Blocks* code could not pick up AOL mails. So for a few days AOL*s mail was not being put into my Mail Blocks account. I had to go and manually get it with my America Online client on my Macintosh on my PC. A little inconvenient because all of my stuff was in one E-mail client that I would go and get everything from Mail Blocks. It made it very convenient and I became dependent on it. Well every time this is happened in the past probably happened 3-4 times AOL would make a change and Mail Blocks had to go and fix their code to make it happen. They would do just that they would change the code, their programming Mail Blocks would change their programming to be able to get into AOL mail and get it for your Mail Blocks* account. Now you think that once AOL bought Mail Blocks should this happen again that the fix would happen much faster because you know now you are a part of the family and Mail Blocks would pick up the phone and they would call the people over in Vienna, Virginia or in Dallas and they would go hey what*s the story, what did we do here, how can we fix this. And they would work cooperatively to fix it. Well that happened once I think in September that happened changed the Gateway, mail was down, they got it fixed. And then around the first part of December maybe late November, first part of December it happened again. And it went on for a few days which is inconvenient enough and then it went on for a week and I called some friends over and I said hey what*s going on, oh we are working on it we don*t know when we are going to get it fixed we are trying to work real hard. AOL has made some changes that are pretty pervasive so we have to make some changes meanwhile Hotmail, Yahoo all the other free E-mail services no problem whatsoever. And that*s to be expected because America Online*s mail setup is proprietary it is unique. In the mean time America Online is letting people get their E-mail now via what*s called IMAP on any other type of E-mail client than America Online so I was getting my AOL mail with Entourage which is what I have used straight through to get E-mail from Mail Blocks. The week stretched into 2 weeks stretched into 3 and to 4 weeks and finally I was told I don*t think we are going to fix this. Now Mail Blocks is owned by America Online and Mail Blocks told me I don*t think that we are ever going to be able to get AOL mail again. So I said well okay I got him, I can*t do this anymore I got to make a script. So if you are using AOL if you are using a POP account Mail Blocks is not the way to go. We will have some alternatives when we come back and your calls.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
