David Lawrence: Okay, so this is pretty straight forward, if you have a file fu.mp3 and you click on it now depending upon how the browser is setup at the end user*s point. Either it will play on a new page in the browser, if they have the QuickTime Plug-in or if they have the Windows Media Plug-in setup to play any audio file in the browser, it will go to a new page and start playing it. You probably seen it before where a QuickTime will create sort of an audio thermometer bar that will play as it goes across. Now it also maybe setup to play within external player iTunes or Windows Media Player or you know MusicMatch, or Lord knows what. It all depends on how their browsers are set either way putting a file up fu.mp3, the original mp3 file is going to generate one of those two situations. Now what you want to do, is you want to use mp3 streaming and the way to do that is using something called a *.M3U File*, do you heard of that?

Jeff: Yes.

David Lawrence: Okay, you don*t need a CGI to do that. All you need is *.M3U File*, which is nothing more than a text file with the fully qualified path to the actual mp3 file that you want to stream. So it requires 2 files, it requires original mp3 file, which as we already noted would be downloaded, if you click on it. And then a second file is *.M3U file*, which is nothing more than a one-line text file that begins with http://your domain/path to the mp3 file that*s what you link to.

Jeff: Okay.

David Lawrence: So what you do is you take your anchor tag and instead of putting the mp3 file in the anchor tag as the source as the href, you put the M3U file in there. Usually you put it in the same directory, it doesn*t matter where it is, but getting on the same directory makes it easy to manage your content and then what you do, is you say click here to stream the mp3 file and then close the anchor tag with the */a.* When you do that, the browser will click and pull up the M3U file and as long as your server is setup to recognize *.M3U* as a reasonable mime type then that*s what will happen, it will go looking for the mp3 file in that URL and then it will start to stream it.

Jeff: Okay, what happen was, okay ever since I put that script in now *

David Lawrence: But hold on you said you used a CGI script.

Jeff: Right, I did I am saying ever since I put that in, they told me to put it into the CGI BIN document you know with --

David Lawrence: Right it has nothing to do with, the reason I cannot--

Jeff: What I am saying is, what happen now I took it all out because that wasn*t working, now you cant even click on the other pages to download any of the streams that were legal streams to download.
