David Lawrence: Panther, okay. And Panther itself should have the right stuff in it for QuickTime for both Panther and for the Classic startup, so that you can use your Mac Os 9 equivalent programs. When did this start happening? What happened that--
Justin: it happened right after I did a full system reinstall.
David Lawrence: And how was that accomplished? How was the full system reinstalled accomplished?
Justin: I used the original Panther CD and reinstalled the system.
David Lawrence: Now, did you buy this Mac with Panther installed on it and the CDs came with it or did you upgrade from another version?
Justin: I upgraded.
David Lawrence: Aha, so here*s what you need to do. You need to get the original discs, I am assuming it was 10.2.3 or 8 or some version of Jaguar that you upgraded from? Yes.
Justin: Yes.
David Lawrence: Okay that*s where you need to start, when you are using upgrade discs. Because usually what happens is the upgrade discs have intelligence built into them to say okay, here*s the version of QuickTime that they are using I need to adjust these components to make it work properly. So if those components are there to begin with, which they wouldn*t be if you started with Jaguar and a clean install. Then what you need to do is to start with Jaguar, install that and then do the update to Panther from there.
Justin: That*s actually what I did do?
David Lawrence: Okay.
Justin: And it says that, it just doesn*t work and when I downloaded the QuickTime and when I tried to install it, it wants to install with Classic but I can*t start Classic up.
David Lawrence: Right.
Justin: So--
David Lawrence: I would suggest trying another install from scratch beginning with Panther and then doing the upgrade. What I might try to do to make sure that QuickTime is working to begin with is, just do the install on Jaguar, right.
Justin: Okay.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
