Michael: No.
David Lawrence: Okay
Michael: It*s not even, it*s barely, it*s barely half full.
David Lawrence: Got you. So then in that case, starting up in Safe Mode is your answer, because some process that isn*t listed in MSCONFIG, isn*t listed into your Task Manager is running or your hard drive has some sort of diagnostic that runs every so often and kicks out anything that's happening. And if you start up in the scan in Safe Mode that won*t be the case, alright.
Michael: Okay.
David Lawrence: I appreciate the call. 180039 online that*s our telephone number. Thirteen past the hour 18003966546 it*s Online Tonight. And Tony you are Online with me.
Tony: Hi David.
David Lawrence: Hi there.
Tony: I have started out when I started paying for my downloaded music. I started out with Napster 2.0 and downloaded several songs, paid for them and then I went from there to Sony Connect and most recently for about the past 6 or 7 months I have been using MSN Music. And long story short, I am very interested in purchasing the iPod Shuffle. Would I be able to put those songs on iPod Shuffle, if I were to buy one.
David Lawrence: Only if you transcode them into mp3s. And that's only possible if you either use a piece of software that is not authorized by any of those services or by burning them to CD and then going back and then ripping the CD. Either way there is going to be a little loss in quality, but the Windows Media format, that all of those use in the Sony AAC format is not compatible with iTunes and the iPod. So unfortunately, unless you move over to, and with Napster you are renting your music right?
Tony: No, it was actually before they did that.
David Lawrence: Okay, so you don't have Napster to go?
Tony: No.
David Lawrence: So what you need to do is transcode them. Now if you burn them at a high enough bit rate. If you transcode them at a high enough bit rate you probably won*t notice much of a loss but that's the only way to do it. And that's one of the sad things about all the different services is there are really two different camps in the legal download area. There is the iTunes camp and then there is everybody else. And the everybody else usually uses Windows Media, in the case of Sony it*s Sony*s ATRAC and they were hoping that Sony would make their stuff compatible with the iPod but they didn't. So you need to transcode them and once you do that if you can burn it to a regular audio CD then you can rip that back in using iTunes and then you are good to go.

After a 30 year career on radio in markets from New York to San Francisco to satellite and network, David H. Lawrence XVII decided to make a change. He hung up his headphones and retired from hosting 3 network/satellite radio shows to head to Los Angeles, to concentrate solely on acting in front of the camera.
Lili VonSchtupp* needed a fresh start. She moved to Washington DC and got her dream job. "I did affiliate relations for Online Tonight with David Lawrence. I slowly worked my way into the producer's chair by impressing David with my assets. (not those assets), my ability to make a CAT5 cable Ethernet cable, type (those of you in the chat room-shut up!) and work a phone system.
